Daniel's Projects

Who am I?

First of all, my full name is Daniel Scott. I currently live in Elburn, IL. Back in 2016 I earned my Associate's Degree in computer programming and analysis from Florida Southwestern State College. I am a born and bred Illinoisan at heart, but have lived some of my life in Iowa and Florida. I am currently employed with Doctor's Data Inc. and enrolled in Purdue Global, pursuing my bachelor's degree as a part of their Exceltrack program. I highly recommend it if you have to work full-time and need the flexibility of online learning. From my experience, you can pursue your degree on your own schedule, so long as you earn at least 6 credit hours per 9 month term.

I built this website as a way of showing potential employers my skillsets. Though this site is a bit simple now, I plan to expand upon it in the future to showcase my skills. I also want to keep a record of all my projects in one place, with a brief explanation of when they were built, what they do, and what I learned from each one. That will all be listed in the My Projects page of this website, and I will link my Github account so anyone can see these projects. I also have my old finals project for Python on my LinkedIn account. That was one of the first programming finals I did.

Aside from finding work as a developer, my long-term goals include finding a nice place out in downtown Saint Charles, and hopefully building my own video game. I have some ideas such as a first-person, retro-inspired RPG in the ilk of Shin Megami Tensei (the old Super Famicom ones), or a top down RPG much like Ultima.

As you can see from the previous paragraphs, in my personal life I am a gamer. I love not only video games but trading card games and tabletop RPGs. I also like to draw sometimes, and I want to learn how to play electric guitar. I got an old Yamahaw in the corner of my room and a few books, but never really set aside the time to learn it. One of these days I will.

When it comes to works of fiction I am a huge fan of cyberpunk movies and books, and Blade Runner will remain one of my favorite movies of all time. I also like Harlin Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream". I am also interested in reading some of the works of Isaac Asimov. I also like Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels.
